Pilates & Beyond is a beautiful, purpose-built studio based in the heart of Darlington, with plenty of parking nearby. We offer a variety of classes to help you move and feel better. Private sessions or small group sessions are available in Pilates and Yoga Monday to Saturday. Pilates sessions can be mat based, with studio equipment or a combination.

It is only through consistent practice that you can make a change, understand the techniques and feel the difference. Therefore, classes are run in courses that progress you week by week. In a course you attend the same class each week, if you cannot attend one week, we will try to offer you a catch-up class in the same block. Courses are typically around 6 weeks.

Originally called Contrology, Joseph Pilates created a method that has grown and adapted over many decades, however, his principles remain; breath, flow, concentration, centering, precision and control. Matwork Pilates is the foundation of the Pilates method, Joseph developed a series of exercises without the use of any equipment that is now known as The Classic Mat, through this Contempory Matwork Pilates was born which is a modern adaptation often using small equipment.

Consistent practice strengthens and tones muscles, improves posture and flexibility, enhances joint mobility and reduces aches and pains. The body is stretched and strengthened, targeting the deep ‘core’ muscles giving the body a defined and lean shape.

The Pilates arc or Spine corrector is a fabulous piece of studio equipment to add new challenge to your Pilates classes. The arcs help to improve your posture, enhance spinal mobility, flexibility and help improve strength. The gentle curved shape helps to support and mobilise your spine.

Pilates Studio

We offer one to ones, two to ones and three to ones using studio equipment; Reformers, Cadillac/Trapeze, Ladder Barrel and Combo Chair. These machines were developed by Joseph Pilates to supplement and deepen the benefits of matwork. Through use of the studio equipment you will improve your movement patterns, increase your strength and gain a deeper understanding of Pilates.

Pilates Barre

Barre classes developed to help tone, sculpt and stretch muscles whilst learning basic ballet technique. Blending the strength and conditioning of ballet alongside the stability and control of Pilates. The classes improve posture and flexibility by targeting core, hips, legs and back, helping you to feel stronger in body and mind.

Aimed at raising your heart rate and improving overall functionality, strength, mobility and stamina. A non-stop class intended for Pilates fans who desire a more intense cardio workout without losing the principals of Pilates. Combining high energy, up-beat movement with the precision and focus of a Pilates class.

Somatics

Gentle Somatic Yoga (GSY) is a mindful movement practice that xrevolutionises health, wellbeing, and personal performance. It uses slow, intentional motions to raise body awareness and resolve chronic tension. Its signature Somatic Movement Flows® combine neuromuscular re-education and flexibility enhancement through brain-to-muscle retraining. These flows promote deep mind/body exploration by isolating muscles, consciously contracting them, and slowly releasing until muscle tone returns to neutral.

Hatha Yoga classes are an invitation to sense, feel, and experience each motion in your body, cultivating awareness and connection in a safe, welcoming and inclusive space. These classes offer something beyond mainstream yoga, an eclectic blend of Hatha Yoga, Somatic Movement, breathwork and meditation.

Classes are accessible, and sustainable for everybody, encouraging an embodied practice that unfolds intuitively and organically, and crafted to bring you into deep states of relaxation. There is a focus on finding ways to reset, recalibrate, and reconnect with your own body’s intelligence — a natural, restorative process that is often overlooked in today’s fast-paced world.

Vinyasa Yoga is a dynamic practice characterised by a continuous, flowing sequence of poses where each movement is linked to the breath. This mindful sequence creates a rhythmic, moving meditation, encouraging a deep mind and body connection while cultivating strength, flexibility, and heighten body awareness. The practice builds endurance and focus, turning movement into a form of active meditation that calms the mind and promotes physical well-being.

Private Sessions

Private Sessions

Bespoke sessions ideal post injury or surgery and to perfect technique. One to one tuition is designed around you, allowing you to focus on your goals and needs. Pilates sessions are either mat based and/or using studio equipment, including Reformer, Cadillac, Ladder Barrel, Combo Chair and Spine Corrector. Yoga sessions are mat based. A personal plan can be supplied to focus on at home. Sessions take place in Studio 2 at Pilates & Beyond.
